About Us
Rennie Welch and its predecessor firms have practiced as Accountants and Business Advisors in the South of Scotland for 85 years. The firm was originally founded by John J Welch in Hawick but he expanded the firm into Kelso a number of years later. The firm continued to grow with satellite offices being opened in Galashiels and Langholm.
In the mid 1990s the firm amicably split into two distinct partnerships of similar size with Welch & Company Kelso taking over the business generated from the Kelso Office. At the time of the split the Kelso operation occupied three offices in Kelso Square and the decision was made to build a suite of offices tailor made for the requirements of a modern progressive firm. In 2002 the firm moved into Academy House in Shedden Park Road. Two years later, as a result of ongoing growth in the practice and the availability of adjoining premises, Academy House was extended.
In 2002, at the time of the move to Academy House, the name of the firm was changed to Rennie Welch to give a more distinct corporate image while at the same time continuing to highlight the name of Welch which has been a byword in the Accountancy Profession in the Borders for the best part of the century.
The firm, throughout its history, has aimed to serve the accounting, auditing and taxation needs of all aspects of the business community in the Borders and as such has developed a wide expertise in retailing, manufacturing, hotel and catering and the service industries. By virtue of its location the firm has always had a major specialism in agricultural accounting and taxation matters, which has been carefully developed by former partners such as Stewart Aitchison, John Stenhouse and John Aitken and is now carried on with equal enthusiasm by the current Partners and staff.
