Martin, born and brought up in Kelso, was educated at Kelso High School before joining John J Welch & Co in 1993 as a junior accounts clerk. In 1999, after six years of work and study, Martin gained the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants qualification, and subsequently became an FCCA in 2004.
Martin was invited into the partnership in 2007 and continues to work in various accountancy and taxation areas, whilst looking after the IT side of the practice. Martin is also involved in advising and setting up computerised record keeping systems for clients.
A very keen golfer, Martin has represented the area at local and national level, with his highlight being in 2009 when he became Kelso Golf Club champion. Having taken up hill walking and running, more recently, Martin has helped raise money for local charities through taking part in half marathons and other such events.
