Gordon S Chisholm CA
Gordon was educated at Kelso High School and then obtained a Diploma in accounting from the Scottish College of Textiles in 1986, where he was also awarded the British Institute of Management prize as the leading student. Thereafter, Gordon joined John J Welch and Co in Kelso in 1986 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in 1990.
In 1994 Gordon became a partner in the, then, nine partner firm of John J Welch and Co. Although a general partner, Gordon has been a registered individual for audit since 1994. He has, over the years, built up a breadth of knowledge and experience in many business areas including dealing with owner managed companies, agriculture entities of all sizes, charities and co-operatives.

Colin Crombie CTA
Having trained in accountancy before qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1991, Colin specialises in providing wide ranging advice to farming clients, family partnerships and small companies.
Colin joined Rennie Welch in 1982 and became a partner in 1999. He draws on many years experience dealing with all aspects of clients affairs, whether structuring businesses in a tax efficient manner or assisting with business development.
Married with four kids, Colin may one day find hobbies and leisure time is something he can choose!

Gill Adamson BSc (Hons) CA CTA
Gill attended St Andrews University, graduating with a degree in Management, Economics and Statistics. Following her time there, she moved to Edinburgh, joining the audit department of Chiene & Tait, a large independent firm of Accountants in Edinburgh and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1998. Once qualified, she specialised in corporate tax planning and VAT, and became Chartered Tax Adviser in 2000.
In 2003 Gill moved from Edinburgh to Kelso and joined Rennie Welch in a general practice role. Gill became a partner in Rennie Welch in 2006.
Throughout her professional career, Gill has established a considerable breadth of experience and technical knowledge within a number of client sectors, including charities, construction, leisure industries and owner managed businesses.

Martin S Thomson FCCA
Martin, born and brought up in Kelso, was educated at Kelso High School before joining John J Welch & Co in 1993 as a junior accounts clerk. In 1999, after six years of work and study, Martin gained the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants qualification, and subsequently became an FCCA in 2004.
Martin was invited into the partnership in 2007 and continues to work in various accountancy and taxation areas, whilst looking after the IT side of the practice. Martin is also involved in advising and setting up computerised record keeping systems for clients.
A very keen golfer, Martin has represented the area at local and national level, with his highlight being in 2009 when he became Kelso Golf Club champion.

Mark Thompson CTA ATT
Mark joined Rennie Welch in July 2008 from a ‘Big 4’ accountancy firm in Newcastle, where he was manager in their Entrepreneurial and Private Clients tax team. He has also previously worked in tax practice in Berwick on Tweed, advising individuals and local businesses, including many in the agricultural sector, on a wide range of tax and accountancy issues.
Mark qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2004, winning the Gilbert Burr prize which is awarded to the candidate achieving the highest marks in the tax advisory paper relating to owner managed businesses. He has also been a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians since 2001.
Having worked in tax for almost two decades, Mark has extensive experience in providing tax advice to owner managed businesses and high net worth individuals. He also deals with associated accounting and tax compliance matters, including tax investigations. Areas of specialism range from advising businesses on structuring and the reduction of tax liabilities, professional partnerships, tax planning for the agricultural sector, to mitigating Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax liabilities for individuals, including the use of trusts and tax shelters.

Steven A Reid CA
Steven was educated at Kelso High School and joined the firm of John J Welch & Co straight from school in 1977. Steven then went on to attain an HND in accounting from the Scottish College of Textiles in 1982. Thereafter, Steven attended the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Edinburgh and qualified as a C.A. in 1985.
Steven was appointed an associate of the firm in 1994 and has experience in many aspects of the accounting profession, dealing with a range of clients from small one man businesses to larger companies. Steven has for a number of years been involved with a variety of local `Farmers Co-operatives` producing and marketing various crops. He also has a day to day involvement with the running of a sizeable Estate incorporating House Rents, Farm Rents, Shooting Lets, Fishing Lets etc.

Consultant
George H Young BA CA
George was born and brought up in Kelso. He attended the University of Newcastle upon Tyne where he graduated in Economic Studies. George trained as a Chartered Accountant in Edinburgh, qualifying in 1973.
In 1974 George moved back to Kelso to work with John J Welch & Company, the predecessor firm of Rennie Welch, becoming a Partner in 1976 and serving in that capacity until retiring as Senior Partner in 2008.
George has worked as a General Partner throughout his career but has considerable experience in Accounting and Taxation issues as they affect the Farming, Hotel and Catering and Health and Social Care sectors. He has also been heavily involved in Charitable and Community Organisations, holding various administrative positions.
Currently George works on a part time basis as a Consultant to the firm, continuing to give support in his specialty fields.
