Rennie Welch announces two senior promotions

13 Nov 2023

Borders-headquartered accountancy firm Rennie Welch LLP has announced that two of its colleagues, Lynn Miller and Ross Tinlin, have been promoted to the senior role of Associate.

The pair become the first to complete Rennie Welch's associate programme set up in 2021 to further develop talent within the firm.

Based in Rennie Welch's Berwick office, Lynn has worked in general practice in the local area since 2002 building her knowledge and experience as a taxation specialist supporting a broad range of clients including families, partnerships and corporate structures. She joined the firm in 2014 after securing her Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser qualifications.

Meanwhile, Ross joined the firm's Kelso office in the Scottish Borders immediately after graduating from high school in 2002. Over the next two decades he has developed a wealth of experience and knowledge working with a wide range of clients. He now specialises in company and charity accounts work and management accounting for a diverse range of businesses.

Headquartered in Kelso with further offices in Berwick and Melrose, Rennie Welch has a long-established reputation as an agricultural accounting and taxation specialist and, in recent years, has also built a strong client base within entrepreneurial, retail, manufacturing, construction, hotel, catering and service industries, together with traditional trades.

Rennie Welch Managing Partner Gordon Chisholm said: “I'm delighted with the immense progress that both Lynn and Ross have made since joining the firm and I warmly congratulate them on their move to associate level. They have both been fully committed and have delivered great client service since joining Rennie Welch.

Their success follows our investment into an associate training programme designed to ensure we can best develop our in-house talent and enable colleagues to progress towards partner level. Lynn and Ross are now one step closer to that achievement. I look forward to working with them as they continue their onward and upward journey within our firm.”

About Rennie Welch

Rennie Welch and its predecessor firms have practiced as accountants and business advisors in the South of Scotland since the 1920s. The firm was originally founded by John J Welch in Hawick and a number of years later he expanded the firm into Kelso. The firm continued to grow with satellite offices being opened in Galashiels and Langholm.

In the mid 1990s the firm amicably split into two distinct partnerships of similar size with Welch & Company Kelso taking over the business generated from the Kelso Office. At the time the Kelso operation occupied three offices in Kelso Square and the decision was taken to build a suite of offices tailor made for the requirements of a modern progressive firm. In 2002 the firm moved into its current home - Academy House on Shedden Park Road. Two years later, as a result of ongoing growth in the practice and the availability of adjoining premises, Academy House was extended.

In 2002, at the time of the move to Academy House, the name of the firm was changed to Rennie Welch to give a more distinct corporate image while at the same time continuing to highlight the name of Welch which has been a byword in the Accountancy Profession in the Borders for the best part of the century.

Geographical expansion has followed in more recent years with the opening of new offices, the first in Melrose in 2014 as part of the merger of Pollock and Co into the existing practice, with a further office in Berwick on Tweed opening in 2016. In 2019 the firm merged with Optimus Accounting Limited and a new office was established in the Ramparts Business Park.

The firm, throughout its history, has aimed to serve the accounting, auditing and taxation needs of all aspects of the business community predominantly in the Scottish Borders, the North East and beyond, and as such has developed a wide expertise in entrepreneurial, retailing, manufacturing, construction, hotel and catering and the service industries, together with traditional trades. By virtue of its location the firm has always had a major specialism in agricultural accounting and taxation matters, which has been carefully developed and is now carried on with equal enthusiasm by the current complement of staff which comprises 7 Partners and approaching 50 staff based in offices in Kelso, Melrose and Berwick.
