Gordon was educated at Kelso High School and then obtained a Diploma in accounting from the Scottish College of Textiles in 1986, where he was also awarded the British Institute of Management prize as the leading student. Thereafter, Gordon joined John J Welch and Co in Kelso in 1986 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in 1990.
In 1994 Gordon became a partner in the then-nine partner firm of John J Welch and Co. Although a general partner, Gordon has been a registered individual for audit since 1994. He has, over the years, built up a breadth of knowledge and experience in many business areas including dealing with owner managed companies, agriculture entities of all sizes, charities and co-operatives.

We are looking for an experienced Audit Senior to join our expanding audit department to assist with managing a diverse and rewarding client portfolio. A qualified/semi-qualified accountant you will work along side the audit manager and partners in managing and delivering audits, and also benefit from ongoing support and development.
Many will be aware of the pending changes from 6 April. Broadly the Chancellor announced a 1.2% increase to 15% and a reduction in the salary threshold from £9,100 to £5,000. At the same time the employer Annual Allowance will also change.
