New Partner at Rennie Welch

We are delighted to announce the promotion of Mairi Drummond to the position of partner in Rennie Welch with effect from 1 May 2019.

Mairi has made a huge contribution to the success and development of the firm over more than a decade and is a key figure to the firm in the service level we are now able to provide to clients. We are delighted to be able to recognise that contribution. 

Having work in the financial services and insurance sector previously, Mairi joined the firm in 2007 as an ACCA qualified accountant and achieved the Chartered Tax Adviser qualification in 2008. Mairi was promoted to the position of associate of the firm in 2016.

Over the years, Mairi has developed a specialism in tax and has made a significant contribution to the development of the tax advice offering of our firm.

Mairi has a particular interest in working with clients in the agriculture and tourism and leisure sectors and specialises in advising on succession planning for family agricultural businesses. Mairi lives on the coast near Coldingham and grew up on the family farm in Berwickshire, giving a first hand insight into the day to day practicalities of a mixed farming operation. Mairi also has wide practical experience of building successful local businesses in the travel and tourism sector. These practical insights, alongside Mairi's extensive professional technical knowledge as an accountant and tax adviser, provide a unique advantage to the firm and clients of Rennie Welch in these sectors. 

Mairi also has a prominent senior role as a Quality Assurance Manager in the Chartered Tax Adviser examination process of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, the leading UK tax professional body, providing a hugely valuable benefit to the firm on technical tax matters and access to other leading national tax specialists.

The promotion is part of our continued commitment to develop our most talented colleagues, for the future strength of Rennie Welch. Clients of the firm can, at the last count, now call on the services of fourteen Chartered or Chartered Certified Accountants, seven Chartered Tax Advisers, alongside extensive Accounting Technician, Tax Technician and Trust and Estate practitioner support, providing one of the largest teams of specialist and technical professional advisers in the Scottish Borders and surrounding area. The firm continues to grow, both in terms of headcount of partners, managers and support colleagues, but also geographically with ongoing growth in our more recently opened offices at Berwick and Melrose, complimenting the long term strength and depth of the Rennie Welch 'hub' at Academy House, Kelso.
